Alberta sends billions in equalization money every year, funding programs in other provinces while getting little back. Add in the fact that Alberta’s home to the Rockies, turquoise lakes, and more than its fair share of attractive people, and you’ve got a strong argument for federal tax exemption. If anything, Ottawa should be paying Albertans just for existing.
Let’s face it – Alberta is carrying more than its weight in Canada’s finances. Equalization payments? Check. Stunning national parks? Check. Population full of good-looking, hard-working people? Absolutely. If there were a province that deserved to keep every cent of its federal taxes, Alberta would be first in line.
