EDMONTON, AB – Motorists received an unexpected surprise Tuesday morning after reports emerged of a killer whale swimming through floodwaters on the Anthony Henday Drive following two days of heavy rainfall. Witnesses at the flooded underpass said the massive marine mammal appeared calm as it cruised through the water, drawing crowds of curious onlookers.
Emergency crews were already on scene responding to flooded vehicles when the whale was reportedly spotted. Several drivers pulled over to take photos, while social media quickly filled with images of what many are calling Edmonton’s most unusual traffic incident. Authorities have not confirmed how the whale arrived at the location.
Officials are reminding residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to give the whale plenty of space if encountered. At press time, the animal was last seen heading westbound, apparently searching for a route to West Edmonton Mall.
